A Second Opinion May Be Helpful

Expert insight when clarity is essential

Second opinion evaluations offer an independent, objective perspective when questions, disagreements, or uncertainties arise regarding prior assessments, diagnoses, or recommendations. These evaluations are intended to help families, individuals, clinicians, schools, and legal professionals make well-informed decisions about next steps, care planning, or educational placement.

Dr. Jennifer Linton Reesman is a board-certified Clinical Neuropsychologist with extensive experience in both pediatric and adult neuropsychology. She has expertise in developmental, learning, attention, and neurological disorders, as well as pre-surgical evaluations for cochlear implants. Her approach is thorough, impartial, and grounded in evidence-based neuropsychological methods.

Second opinion evaluations are often sought in situations such as:

  • Differences between prior evaluations or reports

  • Uncertainty about a diagnosis or recommended interventions

  • Questions regarding educational or clinical strategies

  • Clarification of disability eligibility or functional limitations

  • Review of prior testing, sometimes supplemented with new assessment, to provide a complete perspective

  • Guidance for families navigating multiple medical, educational, or psychological opinions

These evaluations are particularly valuable when decisions carry significant clinical, educational, or legal implications, ensuring that choices are informed, balanced, and grounded in a clear understanding of an individual’s strengths and needs.

Evaluation Process

Professional and Clinical Scope

Second opinion evaluations begin with a thoughtful review of all relevant records, including psychological, neuropsychological, medical, and educational documentation. When needed, new testing is conducted to address gaps or provide updated, objective information.

Evaluations are offered in person in Maryland or, when appropriate, through secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth. The process follows standardized neuropsychological assessment protocols, ensuring accuracy and meaningful comparison with prior evaluations. Testing and interpretation are carefully tailored to each individual’s age, cognitive profile, and specific concerns, while remaining sensitive to cultural and linguistic factors.

Results, Feedback, and Reports

Second opinion evaluations include both a feedback session and written feedback. A comprehensive written report summarizes:

• Review of prior evaluations and findings

• New test results, clinical interpretation, and diagnostic impressions

• Objective recommendations for education, treatment, accommodations, or follow-up

• Considerations for disability documentation when appropriate

A feedback session is scheduled to review results, answer questions, and support families or professionals in applying the findings. For pediatric evaluations, parents or caregivers are included in a collaborative discussion, integrating school or clinician input when relevant.

Dr. Reesman prioritizes timely delivery of results, with many second opinion evaluations providing actionable information within approximately two weeks, helping families and teams move forward confidently.

Email is the preferred method of initial contact. This allows for review of prior records and identification of the most appropriate evaluation pathway. A second opinion evaluation may be the right choice when clarity, confidence, and an expert perspective are needed to guide important clinical, educational, or disability-related decisions.
