Collaborative and Practical Focus

Comprehensive Assessment of Brain Based Functioning Across the Lifespan

A neuropsychological evaluation is a specialized, in depth assessment that examines how brain functioning shapes thinking, learning, behavior, and emotional well being. These evaluations are designed to address complex clinical questions, clarify patterns of cognitive strengths and challenges, and support thoughtful decision making for individuals, families, and professionals.

Dr. Jennifer Linton Reesman is a board certified Clinical Neuropsychologist with advanced postdoctoral training in brain behavior relationships. Her work is grounded in broad experience across pediatric and adult neuropsychology, academic research, and interdisciplinary collaboration within medical, educational, and legal settings. This background allows her to approach each evaluation with both scientific rigor and clinical sensitivity.

The evaluation process is highly collaborative. When appropriate, Dr. Reesman works closely with families, schools, physicians, and other providers to ensure that findings are clearly understood and applied in practical ways. The focus extends beyond diagnosis alone, with careful attention to recommendations that support planning, intervention, and informed decision making.

Services are available in both English and American Sign Language. Evaluations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals may be conducted directly in ASL or with appropriate accommodations, using a comprehensive range of adapted and standardized assessment tools.

All evaluations are conducted in accordance with established professional, ethical, and evidence based standards in clinical neuropsychology, with an emphasis on accuracy, respect, and individualized care.

Neuropsychological Evaluation Findings

Results, Feedback, and Written Reports

Neuropsychological evaluations include written feedback, as well as a feedback session, with a strong emphasis on timely, actionable results. From the initial intake through the discussion of findings, results are typically available within approximately two weeks.

Each evaluation includes a comprehensive written report that summarizes test findings, integrates clinical interpretation, and offers diagnostic impressions when appropriate. The report also provides individualized recommendations and is designed to be clear, clinically sound, and practical, supporting decision making across home, school, medical, and legal settings.

A dedicated feedback session is scheduled to review the results in detail, address questions, and discuss next steps. In pediatric evaluations, parents or caregivers typically meet first to review findings and recommendations. The focus of this process extends beyond understanding the results, with the aim of offering guidance that supports day to day functioning and helps families and individuals plan with greater confidence moving forward.

What a Neuropsychological Evaluation Assesses

Neuropsychological evaluations examine multiple areas of functioning, selected based on the referral question and clinical history.

These areas may include:

Intellectual and cognitive abilities

Attention, executive functioning, and processing speed

Learning and academic skills such as reading, writing, and mathematics

Memory and language functioning

Visual spatial and motor abilities

Social, emotional, and behavioral functioning

Adaptive skills and daily functioning when clinically indicated

Findings are interpreted within the context of developmental history, medical factors, educational experiences, and environmental influences.

Common Reasons for Referral

Individuals, families, and professionals request neuropsychological evaluations for a range of reasons, including:

Concerns about development, learning, or attention

Diagnostic clarification when symptoms are complex or overlapping

Changes in functioning related to neurological, medical, or genetic conditions

Brain injury, epilepsy, or other neurological disorders

Educational planning, IEP or 504 support, and school consultation

Guidance for treatment planning or care coordination

Medical, legal, or consultative questions

Referrals commonly come from families, physicians, schools, attorneys, and other clinical providers.

The Evaluation Process

The evaluation process is structured, individualized, and collaborative. It typically includes:

Review of relevant records and background information

A comprehensive clinical interview and developmental or medical history

Standardized neuropsychological testing tailored to the referral question

Integration of information from caregivers, educators, and other professionals when appropriate

Evaluations are conducted in person and, when clinically appropriate, through secure HIPAA compliant telehealth. Standardized assessment protocols are followed while maintaining flexibility to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
