Early insight for lifelong impact

Purpose of Developmental Evaluations

Developmental evaluations provide a thorough understanding of a young child’s cognitive, social, emotional, and adaptive skills. They are appropriate for children roughly 12 months to 4 years old and support early identification of developmental differences, guidance for educational planning, and supporting eligibility for early intervention services.

Dr. Jennifer Linton Reesman is a board-certified Clinical Neuropsychologist with specialized training in pediatric neurodevelopment. She brings extensive experience working closely with families, early intervention teams, and pediatricians to ensure evaluations are accurate, culturally responsive, and meaningful for both caregivers and professionals.

Families often seek developmental evaluations for:
  • Early identification of developmental delays or differences

  • Diagnostic clarification for conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, or other neurodevelopmental concerns

  • Support in planning individualized family service plans (IFSP) and early intervention eligibility

  • Guidance for caregivers and professionals on developmental milestones, learning, and behavioral supports

These evaluations provide clear, evidence-based information that helps families make informed decisions, access the right services, and lay the foundation for long-term learning, social-emotional growth, and confidence in their child’s development.

Developmental Evaluations

Evaluation Process

Developmental evaluations start with a careful review of the child’s history, including medical, developmental, and family background. Caregivers share insights through questionnaires and observations, which are thoughtfully integrated into the assessment.

The evaluation includes age-appropriate, standardized measures of cognitive, language, motor, social-emotional, and adaptive skills. Testing is interactive and child-centered, designed to be engaging and minimize stress while providing reliable information. When relevant, input from early intervention providers, pediatricians, or other clinicians is incorporated, reflecting a collaborative, team-based approach.

Results, Feedback, and Reports

A comprehensive written report summarizes assessment findings, interprets developmental profiles, and provides practical recommendations for interventions, early learning, and ongoing monitoring. Reports are designed to be accessible for families and usable by early intervention teams, pediatricians, and other professionals.

A feedback session is scheduled to review results, answer questions, and support caregivers in implementing recommendations. Dr. Reesman prioritizes timely communication, typically delivering results within approximately two weeks, so families can act quickly on findings and access appropriate services.

Collaboration and Guidance

Developmental evaluations are conducted with a focus on objective assessment, early identification, and family-centered guidance. Dr. Reesman works closely with caregivers, early intervention teams, and pediatric providers to ensure that evaluations lead to actionable insights, practical strategies, and access to supports that promote the child’s growth and development.

Scheduling a Developmental Evaluation

Email is the preferred method of initial contact. This allows the team to gather relevant background information and determine the most appropriate evaluation pathway for your child.

A developmental evaluation provides clarity, expert guidance, and a roadmap for early support, helping families and professionals make informed decisions during these critical early years.
